What is happening: Election officials in various states have expanded purges of their voter rolls, moving millions of voters across the country onto so-called “Inactive” lists, sometimes even if they voted as recently as 2017. What can we do? Andrea Miller of the Center for Common Ground and the NAACP has created virtual, nonpartisan phonebanks for calling people who are listed as “Inactive” or “Unregistered,” to ask them to check their voting status and to re-register where necessary before the November elections. The phonebanks are directed at communities of color in many states, including Virginia, Georgia, Wisconsin and Texas; as many as 16 states will be included by September
Next steps: We encourage you to join the next Zoom Meeting with Andrea Miller, to find out more about these phonebanks and learn how to start making calls to “Inactive” voters. These meetings will occur every Thursday, 5:00 to 6:00 PM, Pacific time). If you’re interested in joining the next Zoom meeting, please contact Lisa Ferino at firstname.lastname@example.org, and she will send you the link.
